The California Credit Union League Target of Phishing Scam
The California Credit Union League recently became the target of a phishing scam. The phishing e-mail informs recipients that there is an “iPhone Giveaway” and directs them to a fake Web page similar in look to the League’s Web site, and asks him or her for personal information.
Below is a sample e-mail that recipients have received in their inboxes:
“Thank you for your financial institution’s continued use of California Credit Union League services. During the last year CCUL has greatly expanded its membership. As a show of appreciation to our members, we are offering a free iPhone to the first 10 entrants from each financial institution. To request your free gift, please fill out the form available through the link below.”
- Do not reply to the e-mail. The California Credit Union League would not directly contact credit union members and it would never ask for personal information.
- Always exercise caution when you receive unsolicited e-mails or e-mails from senders you don’t know
