Kinecta Federal Credit Union Hosts its 17th Annual Back-to-School Backpack Drive

To help students prepare for the 2026-2027 school year, Kinecta Federal Credit Union hosted its 17th Annual Back-to-School Backpack Drive. Nearly 800 students received backpacks through Kinecta's annual backpack drive, including almost 400 backpacks distributed at Kinecta's Backpack Distribution event in Watts. At the distribution, students received backpacks filled with school supplies, a sack lunch and an ice cream treat from the Kinecta ice cream truck.
“For 17 years, Kinecta’s Back-to-School Backpack Drive has reflected the power of community coming together to support students and families,” said Latrice McGlothin, Executive Director of the Kinecta Community Foundation. “We’re grateful to our members, employees, Skechers and community supporters whose generosity helps provide students with the supplies they need to start the school year strong.”
This year, families are expected to spend an average of $863.86 on back-to-school shopping, according to The National Retail Federation. This is a significant financial burden for families with limited resources. With recession fears, inflation and tight budgets, the importance of backpack drives is at a critical high.
